Students
Arts courses at Wesley provide students with an opportunity to reflect, write, and speak about the relationship between art and faith; to understand more deeply the basic ideas and processes of a range of artistic disciplines; to develop practical tools for fostering the use of the arts in worship, Christian education, prayer, and other areas of Christian life; and to allow them to do focused, practical, and theological work in a specific artistic form. The Certificate in Theology and the Arts is designed as a focus for students at the Master’s level, providing training and opportunities to explore vocational callings in arts ministry. The Doctor of Ministry track in Arts and Theology gives students an opportunity to deepen their study of how the arts interact with other aspects of ministry and Christian life.
Classes are open to all Wesley students. To apply, please contact the Admissions Office.
- The Certificate in Theology and the Arts is an innovative program offered by Wesley that presents students with several unique opportunities through the Henry Luce Center for the Arts and Religion. Students take fourteen program-specific credits, including courses in art theory, introductory courses in several artistic disciplines (including music, drama, dance, visual art, and literary art), and focused electives in a specific discipline. Participants will be able to explore the relationship between art and faith and develop skills for using art in worship and other areas of Christian life. Students in the program can also take advantage of Wesley's location in the nation's capital by connecting with resources in the Washington DC art community.
